About the Department
The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) was founded in 2016 alongside IIT Dharwad itself. Renamed in 2019 to reflect its expanded scope, the department has rapidly grown into a hub of rigorous academics and cutting-edge research.
Our BTech. in Mechanical Engineering integrates sound conceptual understanding with practice-oriented learning — combining foundational science courses with an extensive array of hands-on laboratory experiences. At the graduate level, we offer MTech. by Research and PhD programs.
The department is poised to tackle both global and local challenges: sustainable energy technologies, healthcare innovations, agricultural engineering, and aerospace advancements that serve the nation and the world.
